Landscape Design:

Creating a visually appealing yet easily maintainable landscape is an art that requires knowledge of plant types, soil composition, spacial relationships, and understanding the desired end goals. When all of these elements are combined together effectively, the end result is a landscape that captures attention, adds value to a home or property, and conveys a powerful message about the homeowner.

With over 16 years of experience working in the landscaping industry, we have the know-how and ability to turn your vision into reality. We'll work with you to create a design that:

  • brings to life your vision for the exterior of your home
  • increases the curb appeal of your home
  • creates an environment that is friendly, appealing, and attractive

Our Landscape Design Process:

Proper planning of a landscape requires several steps. Information must be collected about the property, and preliminary ideas and long term goals should be discussed. Afterwards, the ideas are pulled together and put on paper, creating a working design to begin the installation.

It is important to mention that not everyone will need to begin with a full scale landscape design. If you are happy with your current landscape, and just want to add a few plants, incorporate a walkway, or install landscape lighting, a design may not be necessary. Smaller jobs such as these normally do not require a full scale design. In order to give some explanation on how the design process works, we have outlined the main phases below.

Consultation / Site Visit: The first step of any design begins by meeting with you and looking at the property. During this phase, we collect information about the layout of the property, the style of the home or building, and take any necessary measurements. It is also important to discuss the goals that you want to achieve with your design. The ability to design a landscape around your goals necessitates our asking questions about plant and material preferences, who will be maintaining the landscape after the installation, and any budget concerns for the project.

The Design: After the initial consultation, we begin to design your new landscape. Our designs are drawn on CAD programs, and can be easily modified to make any requested changes. One program offers a plan view of the landscape, and the other offers a more photo realistic view. The plan view must be drawn in order to correctly estimate the job. The photo realistic layout is an add-on feature that we offer, and is recommended for those who have a hard time visualizing what their landscape will look like.

Follow up Meeting: After completing your drawing, we meet with you to go over the design, and to take note of any changes you may wish to make. If changes are requested to the design, the hourly rate applies. If no changes are necessary, we explain the design in detail, discuss maintenance requirements, and if requested, we will schedule your work.

Cedar Cove Landscaping believes in flexibility, and we will be glad to work with you in any way possible. Once the design is completed, there are many options to choose from:

1. Cedar Cove Landscaping can install the landscape for you.
2.
We can draw the design and you do the installation. You may choose to purchase the materials, or we can gather and deliver the materials to your residence so that you can work at your convenience.
3.
The design can be broken into phases, for those on a tight budget. This allows you to begin landscaping immediately, and complete the project as your budget allows.

If an agreement is made to allow Cedar Cove Landscaping to install your landscape, a preliminary start date will be discussed with you. Please keep in mind that during peak seasons, such as spring and fall, start dates may be delayed.

Landscape Installation:

The process of installing a well-planned landscape design can be difficult and cumbersome. It requires skill and an understanding of proper installation techniques to insure maximum plant-life longevity, complete satisfaction, and most importantly, safety.

With our extensive experience installing a broad range of landscapes and plant-life, you don't have to worry your weekend project turning into an extended nightmare. We are fully licensened and insured and we have all the equipment and man-power necessary to quickly transform your old, tired landscape into a true work or art.

While installation of landscape plants is our most popular service we also offer a variety of other installation services to meet your needs.

We offer a standard 90 day guarantee on all plant material that we install, regardless of the size or complexity of the job. In many cases, the 90 day guarantee can be extended if we are allowed to perform all routine maintenance on the installed landscape. We know of no other company in the area that offers a guarantee of this type.

Standard Landscape Installation Services:

Irrigation: We install drip irrigation and mist-type irrigation systems to landscape beds. This is a popular choice for those who find it difficult to remember to water.

Landscape Lighting: Landscape lighting can add a great touch to your landscape. It extends the usefulness of your landscape into the nighttime hours, and is an inexpensive way to improve security around the home. We offer installation of outdoor lighting systems up to 600 watts.

Patios: Patios are a great way to utilize more of your space outdoors. They provide a place for family and friends to gather and enjoy the outdoors on warm days. Outdoor furniture, grills, and portable fireplaces can be added for those great finishing touches. Currently, we offer patio installations using brick pavers or stone, with a maximum size limit of 400 square feet.

Walkways: Paths help guide visitors through the landscape, reducing the chance of damaging plants or lawns. They can be constructed using a wide variety of materials, such as gravel, mulch, stones, or pavers.

Retaining Walls / Raised Beds: Retaining walls are great for areas that are normally difficult to plant or mow due to steep terrain. They are also great for erosion control. Raised beds are similar in nature to retaining walls, in that they provide an area above the normal grade of the soil for planting. They are great for areas that have poor drainage issues. Both retaining walls and raised beds can be constructed using wood, stone, or decorative concrete blocks.

Lawn Installations: In our experience, establishing a lawn is a frustrating task for many homeowners. Cedar Cove Landscaping offers complete lawn installations, whether you are starting from scratch, or just need to revitalize your existing lawn. We offer seeding, sodding, and complete lawn renovations. In addition, we also offer a variety of weed control and fertilizer programs, aerating, and over-seeding services. Please refer to the lawn maintenance section of this booklet for more information.

Standard Landscape Maintenance Services:

Mowing Services: Services include mowing, weed eating, edging around concrete surfaces, and blowing off driveways and sidewalks. Our mowing services are offered in weekly and every other week intervals and our schedule starts in mid-March and ends the week before Thanksgiving.

Aerating and Over-seeding: Many lawns have compacted soil which restricts the movement of air, water, and fertilizer to the turf roots. Aerating enables these elements to penetrate and move deeper into the soil, thus allowing the roots of the turf to grow deeper. Lawns with deeper root systems are more vigorous, less prone to weed and disease infestation, and are more resistant to the heat and drought of summer. Aeration also aids in the over-seeding process by establishing better seed-to-soil contact, which is necessary for successful seed germination.

It is recommended that most lawns be aerated and over-seeded at least once per year. Lawns on a regular weed control and fertilizer program should always include this service, so that maximum results can be obtained.

Fescue and Bermuda Maintenance Program: We offer custom lawn maintenance programs for all types of turfgrass. Each lawn is unique, and should be treated accordingly. We would be glad to work with you to achieve the green lawn you have always wanted.

Pruning: Pruning services are offered year-round, although some plants require pruning at specific times. We recommend that all plants be pruned at least once per year. Pruning helps to maintain plant size, and keeps plants healthy and vibrant.

Re-mulching: Re-mulching services are also offered year around. We recommend re-mulching landscape beds at least once per year. This insures that weeds and moisture loss will be kept to a minimum, and that plants are protected during the winter months. There are a wide variety of mulching materials available. Shredded pine, hardwood, and pine straw are some of the more commonly used materials.

Seasonal Color Changes: Seasonal color changes are normally done twice per year. Summer annuals are installed in the spring after the threat of frost is gone. Winter annuals are installed in the early fall before colder temperatures set in to allow enough time for proper root development.

Landscape and Ornamental Fertilizer: Fertilizer for ornamental landscape plants should be applied at least once per year. Fertilizer helps promote overall plant health, and provides the necessary nutrients for optimum growth and flowering.

Landscape Bed Weed Control: Weeds are a big problem in most landscapes. It’s amazing the conditions that weeds will thrive in. We’ve seen them growing in wet soil, cracks in pavement, and in places that never see the light of day. If only our plants would thrive in such conditions! Landscape beds should be inspected for weeds on a monthly basis. If weeds are present, they should be removed by hand, or controlled by applying the appropriate herbicide.

Insect Control: Insects can cause a tremendous amount of damage to the landscape. They can completely defoliate trees, destroy flower buds, and in some cases completely kill a plant. Other insects, such as fire ants, can produce unsightly mounds in the landscape, as well as pose a danger to humans and animals. Cedar Cove Landscaping offers regular spraying for insects during the peak season.

Frequently Asked Questions:

When is the best time to apply TopChoice?

It can be applied any time of the year, although it is most effective when temperatures are cooler and the ground is moist. Ants tend to be more active during this type of weather, and come into contact with the chemical easier. In hot dry weather, ants are not as apt to crawl over or through the insecticide. However, the chemical still remains active, and any irrigation or rainfall will bring ants to the surface, which in turn exposes ants to the active ingredient.

How long does it last?

TopChoice™ kills existing colonies of fire ants and prevents new colonies from establishing for up to one year. After its initial release into the soil profile, it binds tightly to the soil creating a long lasting barrier which is not affected by heavy rainfall or irrigation. Because it acts gradually it kills foraging workers, but not before they carry the insecticide back to the colony and spread it to the queens and other ants.

How safe is the product to family or pets?

TopChoice™ is selectively toxic to insects. Optimum control is achieved by using an extremely low dose of active ingredient (.0143% active ingredient). Although no pesticide is considered completely safe, it is the most responsible choice available for fire ant control on the market today. The active ingredient, Fipronil, is the same ingredient used in Frontline, a commonly used flea and tick treatment for animals.

Does it control other pests as well?

In addition to providing control of fire ants for one year, TopChoice also controls mole crickets for a period of 4 months, nuisance ants for 3 months, and fleas and ticks for about a month.

Keep in mind that this is the only fire ant treatment you will need for the next 52 weeks! We guarantee it!
